If you've been following us for a long time, you'll know that we released a version of this song on our album Upstairs. This is our way of saying thanks for the five years of The Deafening Colors since then.
Yes, that's right, it's been FIVE years since we released Upstairs.
Today, it's positively surreal to think back to the summer of 2011: we were living in this creaky old house in Morristown on Wisteria Terrace - there, we recorded music late at night, crickets chirping through the open windows in the humid summer air, with the gear set up at the kitchen table or scattered on the basement floor.
If you've seen us live since then, though, you know that "Island Full of Christians" has been played at just about every show we've played since we released Upstairs, and for some years before that.
Since people have requested it so many times, since we wanted to commemorate Upstairs, and since it's more often than not the way we open our shows, we decided to record and release this as a bit of a "thank you."
So, sincerely, thank you for listening. It means a lot to us.
One parting word: there's more to come in this celebration of Upstairs, and in the next update (one week from today), we'll also let you know what's what on the follow-up to 2015's Carousel Season that we have been recording here in Weehawken.
We hope you enjoy the song and all that is to follow!
